Would you like to take part in a meaningful conversation on environmental issues? (Closes 27th of November)

Here at Hopkins Van Mil, we are excited to be holding a public dialogue (a space for people to express their opinions on issues that matter to society) to explore the most pressing issues in environmental science. This could include discussion of topics such as climate change; nature and biodiversity; air, soil and water quality; polar research; environmental risks; and sustainability.

Working alongside the UK’s largest funder of independent environmental science research, the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), we are bringing people together from across the UK, including public representatives, people working in environmental science, and NERC staff, in a combination of online and in-person workshops. These workshops will be held between December 2022 and February 2023 and will be an opportunity for people to share their interests and priorities in relation to science and the environment, with the potential to inform NERC’s future strategy.

The public dialogue will include 100 public participants, including 58 people from existing community groups across the country. We are now inviting individuals to express their interest in being involved. We are especially interested in involving people and community groups who identify with one or more of the following:

  • Young people who have not extensively engaged with environmental issues

  • People and communities experiencing racial inequalities

  • People belonging to faith and inter-faith groups

  • People who have been or might be most exposed to climate change or negative environmental impacts (for example, due to disability, long-term health conditions, coastal living, migration, exposure to air pollution).

We would like to emphasise that this opportunity is open to everyone, especially those with less prior knowledge or experience of environmental science. Any individuals taking part will receive a thank you payment of £250.

This opportunity has now closed. Thank you for your interest, if you would like to ask any questions about the project please get in touch at louis@hopkinsvanmil.co.uk.
