Mattie Carter

Research Assistant

Having recently completed an undergraduate degree in Health and Human Sciences at Durham University, Mattie joined the HVM team originally as an intern. She joined the team full time as a Research Assistant in August 2025. During her time at Durham, Mattie focussed on the anthropology of health, taking both biological and social perspectives in her studies. With this background, HVM provides the perfect environment to further an understanding of the operation of real-life social research. She is particularly interested in learning more about the methodology used in deliberative process and gaining hands-on experience of such.

Mattie provides the heart of HVM’s care for participants as they join our research and deliberative programmes. She is currently supporting residents of Yorkshire and The Humber in a Citizen’s Jury on the commercial determinants of ill health, wrapping up workshops in Wakefield and Doncaster for the year. Alongside this, she is busy co-writing a report on the Solar Radiation Modification public dialogue.

Outside of work, Mattie loves anything outdoors, she’s a keen tennis player, cold-water swimmer and spends a lot of her time missing her dogs who live in North Yorkshire.
